Module 2: Relationships

In this module, you’ll learn about how to build a relationship with your clients, customers, your team – and yourself.

Depending on the nature of your business and your number of clients, the impact of having just one leave can be devastating. People thrive when they’re in a good relationship, professional or otherwise.

When it comes to your professional relationships, taking the time to show that your relationship is important is good for your career’s success. This relationship grows stronger, with every client visit. From regular client visits, we become very familiar with our clients. And we learn about one another. Their relationship grows stronger and in no time at all, our clients are telling us very personal information.

Some clients will expect a more informal and friendly approach, whilst others will want you to remain distant and detached from anything about them other than their work. As a general rule, it’s best to let the client set the level of personal interaction that they’d like and respond accordingly.

13 TOOLS FOR PROBLEM SOLVING

An in depth look at both sides of a problem and how to get the best outcomes. It is inevitable. It is going to happen whenever you have people with  different expectations. This makes conflict management critical, whether avoiding arguments, disputes, lasting conflict or ultimately, litigation.

Conflict can be avoided if steps are taken early in a discussion to diffuse anger and facilitate communication, and it can be resolved by applying a series of thoughtfully applied steps.  As a full-time mediator and trainer in the fields of negotiation and conflict resolution, I see conflict in its final stages – full blown litigation or on the verge of it in pre-litigation mode. What I have learned in seeing these disputes for 10 years is that most of them could have been resolved in the earliest stages if the people involved applied some of the skills that mediators use to resolve conflict.

WHEN FACED WITH A PROBLEM

People tend to do three things when faced with a problem: they get afraid or uncomfortable and wish it would go away; they feel that they have to come up with an answer and it has to be the right answer; and they look for someone to blame.
